Dubai hopes to have a human-free police station by 2030

The UAE’s first police robot will join Dubai Police in May and robots will make 25 per cent of the force by 2030, officials said on Monday. Brigadier Abdullah Bin Sultan, Director of the Future Shaping Centre of Dubai Police, said: “We are looking to have more robots in future to handle policing. By 2030, we are keen to make robots around 25 per cent of the total police force,” Brigadier Bin Sultan said. “We planned for a security system for the future of the city to tackle future crimes. China's LeEco to slash U.S. jobs amid global pull-back

China's embattled LeEco aims to cut its U.S. workforce to as few as 60 people from around 500 earlier this year, as the Netflix-to-Tesla-like group streamlines global operations to shake off a cash crunch, a person with knowledge of the plan said. The company has spread itself from electric vehicles and online television content to sports and smartphones in a little over a decade, employing 14,000 people globally as of late last year. Samsung Display showcases stretchable OLED

Samsung Display will unveil its stretchable display for the first time at the US display conference, the company said on Monday. The Korean display maker said it is showcasing 9.1-inch stretchable organic light-emitting diode panel at the Society for Information Display 2017, which kicks off on Tuesday at the Los Angeles Convention Center. China expanding bike-sharing market to boost IoT chip demand

China's bicycle-sharing market has been expanding, which will boost demand for IoT chips, according to MediaTek corporate VP JC Hsu. The bike-sharing market in China has already far exceeded MediaTek's original expectations, he added. Industry sources have said that China-based bike-sharing companies including Ofo, Mobike and Bluegogo have all used MediaTek's chip solutions in their IoT tracking devices for bicycles. Bain, KKR, Broadcom among suitors lining up for Toshiba's chips business

Suitors including private equity firms KKR & Co LP, Bain Capital and U.S. chip maker Broadcom Ltd are lining up for Toshiba Corp's semiconductor business, sources familiar with matter said. Broadcom, which has teamed up with private equity firm Silver Lake, and Bain which has partnered with South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix will participate in the second-round, the people said. It was not clear if KKR and its partners would submit their offer by the end of the day. Nanya remains 4th largest DRAM supplier worldwide in Q1

Nanya Technology Corp. remained the world's fourth largest DRAM supplier in the world in the first quarter. In a recent research report, TrendForce said Nanya posted sales of US$394 million for the January-March period, up 3.6 percent from a quarter earlier because of higher DRAM prices.
