Ze świata  QuantERA ogłasza konkurs na dofinansowanie badań w zakresie technologii kwantowych 


Sieć QuantERA ogłosiła konkurs o dofinansowanie międzynarodowych przedsięwzięć naukowych z zakresu technologii kwantowych. Inicjatywa uzyskała wsparcie Komisji Europejskiej i jest realizowana jako projekt typu ERA-NET Cofund, koordynowany przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki w Krakowie. Budżet konkursu wynosi 34 mln euro, z czego Komisja Europejska oferuje przeszło 11 mln. Nabór wniosków trwa do 15 marca 2017 r.

Sieć tworzą 32 organizacje z 26 państw Unii Europejskiej oraz państw stowarzyszonych. QuantERA, koordynując prace partnerów, zachęca środowisko naukowe do międzynarodowej współpracy na rzecz wzmocnienia konkurencyjności badań europejskich na arenie światowej.

Nabór wniosków realizowany jest dwuetapowo. W pierwszym etapie złożyć należy dokument skrócony, tzw. pre-proposal, w drugim - pełny, tzw. full proposal. Termin składania wersji skróconej (pre-proposal) upływa 15 marca 2017 r. o godz. 17.00 czasu środkowoeuropejskiego.

Do konkursu mogą przystępować konsorcja złożone z minimum trzech grup badawczych pochodzących z przynajmniej trzech różnych krajów biorących udział w konkursie QuantERA 2017. Zakres konkursu obejmuje tematy związane z badaniami kwantowymi: quantum communication, quantum simulation, quantum computation, quantum information sciences, quantum metrology sensing and imaging, novel ideas and applications in quantum science and technologies.

Organizatorzy zapraszają zainteresowanych konkursem do udziału w międzynarodowym dniu informacyjnym dla wnioskodawców, który odbędzie się 16 lutego 2017 r. na Malcie. Amazon launches biggest wind farm yet

Amazon announced that its largest wind farm yet - Amazon Wind Farm Texas - is now up and running, adding more than 1,000,000 MWh of clean energy to the grid each year. Amazon has launched 18 wind and solar projects across the U.S., with over 35 more to come. Together, these projects will generate enough clean energy to power over 330,000 homes annually. These projects also support hundreds of jobs and provide tens of millions of dollars of investment in local communities across the country. Apple plans on selling lower priced models with iPhone X features

According to a report published in China, Apple will be using some of the technology found in this year's Apple iPhone X on next year's models that are rumored to have code names of Lisbon and Hangzhou. The report says that Apple is concerned about its market share in China, and believes that by offering many iPhone X features in a lower priced phone, it can help it recapture market share in the country. Another website in Japan, Macotakara, expects the lower-end model would get a 10,000 yen ($90 USD) hair cut from this year's pricing. Intel and Amazon partner on voice recognition tech

Intel and Amazon are partnering to combine the former's silicon and smarts with the latter's Alexa voice platform. The chipmaker has introduced the Intel Speech Enabling Developer Kit to provide a "complete audio front-end solution for far-field voice control". The idea is that Intel has done the hard work of designing the mic arrays and voice systems and that all developers will need to do is write applications for them. It offers algorithms for echo cancellation and beam forming, wake words, an 8-mic array and the company's dual digital signal processor. The development kit is up for pre-order starting today for $399. Graphics card vendors upbeat about crytocurrency mining

As the values for some major cryptocurrencies continue rising and prolonging related graphics card demand, graphics card vendors, including Asustek Computer who was originally conservative about the mining trend, have been expanding their orders for Nvidia and AMD GPUs, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
